Giving back to our community: Bike Works
As you may know, Matt (our winemaker extraordinaire), was a cyclist before he decided to become a mad wine scientist. So, bike-related charities are near and dear to his heart!
Eleven Winery is so excited to be involved with Bike Works. Bike Works promotes the bicycle as a vehicle for change to empower youth and build resilient communities. Since 1996 they have worked to educate and empower youth and make bicycling accessible and affordable to the Seattle community.
Bike Works has increased the number of youth from 60 the first year in 1998 to over 1,000 in 2016. In addition, they have increased the depth of program offerings over the years to provide more leadership opportunities that make a real impact in the organization and our community. They have youth serving on our Board of Directors, on a Youth Advisory Committee, and as bicycle leaders on rides and in classrooms. Bike Works’ mission is not just to build bikes, but to build sustainable communities by educating youth and promoting bicycling.
We support Bikeworks because of their amazing programs like Earn-A-Bike. This program allows a youth to complete hours of community service repairing donated bikes, when these hours are complete they get an opportunity to choose and repair his or her own bike!
Eleven Winery donated to their annual fundraiser, Bikecitement, Sunday, March 26. and the entire staff was in attendance to support this great organization.
We look forward to supporting Bike Works for many years to come!
