This 3-hour class is designed for brand-new players and anyone who wants a clear introduction to American Mahjong. We will start with a lesson on the tiles, the card, the Charleston, and the basic flow of play, then spend most of the class in guided play. No experience is needed, and no memorizing is required. Curious about American Mahjong but not sure where to start? Join Kitsap Mahjong for a beginner-friendly Mahjong 101 class.

This 3-hour class is designed for brand-new players and anyone who wants a clear introduction to American Mahjong. We will start with a lesson on the tiles, the card, the Charleston, and the basic flow of play, then spend most of the class in guided play. No experience is needed, and no memorizing is required. Materials are provided. Come ready to learn, ask questions, sip something good, and enjoy a social night of Mahjong.

You’ll learn how to:

• Recognize the basic tile groups

• Read a beginner-friendly Mahjong card

• Follow the rhythm of a turn

• Understand the Charleston passing sequence

• Start spotting possible hands while you play

Individual registrations may be combined into shared tables. Kitsap Mahjong will make every effort to accommodate card preferences and seating requests, but cannot guarantee specific table assignments. A Few Things Before You Come

Please arrive a little early so you have time to check in, find your seat, and order food or drinks when available before we begin.

Food and beverages are purchased separately from the venue and are not included with your Artvana ticket.

Advance registration is recommended. Our events can sell out, and registering ahead helps us make sure we've brought a canvas and supplies just for you.

Serving the Kitsap Peninsula, Scarlet Road supports survivors of sexual exploitation and sex trafficking. Through outreach, advocacy, and long-term care, they help people find safety and work toward their own goals for healing. They also provide education to help our community recognize and prevent exploitation.

Leo Moon is the solo incarnation of actor, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Brian Adrian Koch.  California born and Oregon raised, Brian has been active in the Portland theater, film & music scene since arriving in 2000.

He is a current and founding member of indie rock band Blitzen Trapper (2000 - present), and formerly of psychedelic folk duo Dead Lee (2017-2023). Appearing now as a solo acoustic performer, his minimal and haunting tunes are stripped down paeans to the glorious absurdities of life; harmonica spattered psalms to the void.

Leo has most recently opened for English troubadour Wesley Stace & Minnesota's Wild Horses as well as appearing at Shady Pines Festival in Sandy OR and an appearance at Portland Folk Festival in January 2025. He released a full length solo album, The Fool.

Michigan native and Seattle-based singer-songwriter Sarah Brunner brings a rich acoustic Americana sound shaped by over 10 years of live performance. Those years on stage have honed her seasoned vocals, creating an intimate yet powerful sound. She writes with honesty and depth, exploring love, struggle, and connection through a queer lens.

We’re giving Drag Bingo a festive makeover for the season. Seattle’s Shay Fox will be taking over Eleven Winery for a night of bingo, performances, prizes, and plenty of her signature sass and comedy.

Your assignment for the evening: find the most gloriously tacky holiday sweater you can. Flashing lights? Excellent. Tinsel? Even better. A three-dimensional reindeer hanging off the front? Now we’re talking.

Your favorite Christmas movies, in cookie form! We’re teaming up with Sweettree Cookie Company for a Christmas Movie Night cookie decorating class.

Decorate sugar cookies inspired by holiday movie favorites, with step-by-step guidance using royal icing. All supplies are included, and no decorating experience is needed.

Bring a friend and settle in for some holiday fun. Wine will be available for purchase, so you can sip while you decorate.

CloudRail is a Seattle-based jazz duo made up of guitarist Preston Murphy and vocalist Theresa Redmond. The music power duo combines Murphy’s extensive background in the Vermont and Seattle jazz scenes with Redmond’s versatile and clear-cutting vocals. Both musicians play in a variety of different-styled groups, anywhere from Redmond’s indie-pop band and choral groups to Murphy’s jazz combo and big band performances.

They bring their differing skill sets together for CloudRail, sometimes dipping into Jazz-adjacent genres like blues and folk. Murphy and Redmond met in their Master’s of Music program at the Seattle Film Institute in 2021 and started performing together in 2022, fusing their extensive musical backgrounds to form a new combined sound.

Tyler C.S. McGinnis blends Americana, alternative country, and Southern rock with powerful, soulful vocals and honest storytelling. Born and raised in Los Angeles, he found his musical footing while attending college in Nebraska before settling in western Washington in 2017.

A full-time musician since 2022, Tyler performs throughout the Pacific Northwest both solo and with The Hipocrats, the band he co-founded with Sarah Brunner. His songs range from rowdy singalongs to heartfelt reflections on love, resilience, and life’s unexpected turns. His recent solo singles, including “Geronimo,” “Admiring Ghosts,” and “Like Make Believe,” bring that same personal touch to his growing collection of original music.
